Story
John McAllister (1085) was born in Carnoustie, Scotland in 1893. He travelled to Australia and was a clerk at the Mount Kembla mine before enlisting in the AIF in 1914. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT Suffolk A23 on the 18 October, 1914. While training in Egypt he must have shown some ability as on the 29th January, 1915 he was promoted to Corporal. He landed on Gallipoli on 25th April and was in action with the 2nd Battalion machine gun company when he was killed. He is buried in Shrapnell Valley Cemetery Row 3, Plot D, Grave 6. John had previously served in the Territorial 5th Scottish Rifles.
