Story
Charles Ball (Service No 3551), was born in Kiama, NSW
The family moved to Casino, NSW, around 1906, and took up farming in the area.
At enlistment, he was single, 23 years old and worked as a farmer. Charles embarked on HMAT A68 Anchises, with 1st Pioneers 9th Reinforcement, on 24th January 1917. He arrived in England on 27th March 1917, and joined 1st Machine Gun Battalion, 12th Company, in the field, on 25th October 1917. Charles saw service on the Western Front and was wounded in action on 24th April 1918. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his neck. Charles returned to duty on 12th July 1918, and served until the end of the war. Charles returned to Australia in September 1919, and was discharged on 10th October 1919.
On 24th January 1923, Charles married Juanita Rann.
Charles enlisted for service in WW2 in Casino, NSW, on 13th June 1942. He served as Private Ball (Service No N441743), with 1st Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps, until 24th September 1945.
Charles' brother, George Ball (Service No 3696), also served.
