Story

Henry Corney (Service No 147) was born in Lithgow, NSW

Henry's AIF file is somewhat confusing, with contradicting dates and entries, but he was wounded twice on Gallipoli, on 14th May and 23rd August 1915, receiving gun shot wounds to his legs and wrist. He was evacuated on 30th November 1915 due to illness and treated in hospital in Egypt.

Henry arrived in France on 16th October 1916 and served on the Western Front. He joined 13 Battalion, B Company on 11th April 1918 and was wounded in action a third time on 22nd June 1918, and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right leg.

He was returned to Australia in December 1918 on special 1914 leave and discharged on 17th March 1919.

In 1922 he married Emma Bovis in Bulli and the couple raised a family.

Henry died in 1951 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery, NSW His service is commemorated on the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial.
