Story
John McGuigan (Service No 1066), was born in Bellambi, NSW The family left the Illlawarra, and took up farming at Kyogle, NSW, some time before 1915.
At enlistment, in Lismore, NSW, he was single, 22 years old, woked as a farmer and lived in Kyogle, NSW
John embarked on HMAT A64 Demosthenes, with 41st Battalion, 1st Reinforcement, on 18th May 1916. He arrived in England on 20th July 1916, and joined 9th battalion in France, on 9th September 1916.
In 1917, John received word that his father, had died suddenly.
John saw service on the Western Front, until 29th May 1918, when he was wounded in action, when a bomb exploded. He was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of wounds to his face. John returned to his unit on 19th August 1918.
He returned to Australia in May 1919, and was discharged on 20th August 1919.
In 1922, John married Mary Doohan, in Kyogle, NSW, and they had 3 children.
John's twin brother, Peter (Service No 1968), also served.
