Story
Alfred John Allsep (Service No 6899), was born in Sydney, NSW, around 1891.
At enlistment he was single, 26 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Wollongong, NSW
Alfred embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana, with 17th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement, on 16th June 1917. He arrived in England on 25th August 1917, and joined 17th Battalion, in France, on 4th January 1918. He saw service on the Western Front and took part in the Allied Offensive of 8th August 1918, when he was wounded in action. Alfred was evacuated to hospital in England, with severe shrapnel wounds to his head.
He was returned to Australia in January 1919, and discharged medically unfit.
In 1933, Alfred married Nettie Kirton, in Bowral, NSW
Alfred died in 1969.
