Story
William Anderson (Service No 1656) was born in Bathurst, NSW
At enlistment he was single, 21 years old, trained as a blacksmith and lived at Coledale, NSW William had served with the Cadets.
He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A61Kanowna on 19 June 1915 with 20th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement. He arrived on Gallipoli on 6th August 1915 and within a week had received shrapnel wounds to his wrist left hip and right shin. William was sent to England for treatment and in March 1916 was returned to Australia.
Cleared for duty on 18th August 1916, William embarked on HMAT Euripides on 9th September 1916, and arrived in England where he arrived on 26th October 1916.
He arrived in France on 13th December 1916. In 1917 and 1918 he had a few admission to hospital with leg problems from his Gallipoli wound.
On 28th November 1918 he married Winifred Tiley in London.
William was returned to Australia in January 1919 and discharged medically unfit from the AIF due to war wounds on 27th April 1919.
Letters on file from Edward indicate he was living in Queensland in 1967.
