Story
Edward Anderson (Service No 24654) was born in Wollongong, NSW in 1877. In 1899 he married Sarah McCready and they settled at Mount Keira near Wollongong.
At enlistment Edward was 38 years old, worked as a miner and had served 20 years with the Australian Garrison Artillery. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A67 Orsova with the 5th Divisional Ammunition Column, 4th Reinforcements on 29th July 1916.
Edward arrived in England on 14th September 1916 and then France on 25th February 1917. On 18th August 1917 he was transferred to 5th Field Artillery Brigade, 13th battery .
On 10th July 1917 he was admitted to hospital suffering from trench fever. Edward was wounded in action on 15th October 1917 and evacuated to hospital in England with severe injuries from a mustard gas attack.
He was repatriated to Australia in March 1918 and discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 20th September 1918.
