Story
Ernest Anderson (Service No 2780) was born in Corrimal, NSW and attended Corrimal Public School. Ernest enlisted a few days before his brother William embarked for Gallipoli.
At enlistment Ernest was single, 20 years old, a miner, and had served with the CMF. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 3rd Battalion, 9th Reinforcements on 30th September 1915. Ernest arrived in Egypt and served with 3rd Battalion. He was sent on to France where he arrived on 28th March 1916.
On 21st July 1916 while fighting at Pozieres he was wounded and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his ankle. He returned to his unit on 14th September 1916.
Ernest saw service on the Western Front until 15th September 1918 when he was again wounded in action and sent to hospital for treatment of gas poisoning.
Ernest returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged on 9th July 1919.
In 1934 he married Vera Lynch.
On 5th June 1940 he enlisted for service in World War 2 (Service No N74116) and served in the Australian Army Catering Corps until discharged on 10th May 1944.
Ernest's service is commemorated on the Corrimal Public School Roll of Honor.
