Story
James Davidson (Service No 1534 and 2271) was born in Woonona, NSW
At enlistment James was single, 20 years old, and worked as a butcher.
He embarked from Sydney (Service No 1534) on HMAT A49 Seang Choon with 3rd Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion on 11th February 1915. After arriving in Egypt he was returned to Australia sick.
James left the ship in Melbourne and on 25th June 1915 re-embarked (Service No 2271) with 6th Reinforcements, 5th Battalion on HMAT A40 Ceramic. He joined 5th Battalion on Gallipoli on 5th August 1916 and fought at Lone Pine.
James was admitted to hospital on Mudros sick on 22nd September 1915 but returned to his unit on 8th October 1915.
After arriving back in Egypt he was transferred to Australian Army Service Corps as a butcher on 16th March 1916.
James arrived in France on 30th March 1916 and served in England and on the Western Front.
On 21st October 1918 he was promoted to Corporal.
On 1st March 1919 he married Alice Winterbottom in England and they returned to Australia in July 1919.
James was discharged from the AIF on 7th November 1919. He and Alice had 3 children.
He died in 1967.
