Story
Edward James (Service No 3810) was born in Balgownie, NSW
At enlistment Edward was single, 21 years old, employed as a miner, and had served 4 years in the Citzen Military Forces.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A29 Suevic with 12th Reinforcements, 13th Battalion ,on 20th December 1915. Edward arrived in Egypt on 4th March 1916 and was then sent on to France on 6th June 1916.
Edward saw service on the Western Front until 15th August 1916 when he was wounded and evacuated to hospital for treatment of gun shot wounds to his buttocks. He returned to his unit on 1st October 1916 and served without further incident until the end of the war.
Edward returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged on 26th September 1919.
In 1925 he married Lily Duncan in Wollongong and together they raised 2 children.
Edward died in Wollongong in 1969. His service is commemorated on the Balgownie War Memorial.
