Story
George Adair (Service No 3713) was born in Kalgoorlie, W.A. in 1900.
In order to be accepted when he enlisted, George gave false personal information, declaring his surname to be Adiar, that he was 18 years old, single, lived with his father, Noah, at Dapto, NSW and was a labourer. In fact, George was only 15 years of age and his real surname was Collier.
George embarked from Sydney on HMAT A60 Aeneas with 8th Reinforcements, 20th Battalion, on 20th December 1915, and after arriving in Egypt was transferred to 114th Battery 25th Howitzer Brigade on 16th April 1916.
After arriving in France on 25th June 1916 George transferred to 115th Battery and saw service on the Western Front. While not wounded, George had a number of admissions to hospital.
He was returned to Australia in February 1919 and discharged on 26th May 1919.
George enlisted again as George Terence Adair (Service No 86217) on 10th August 1919 for Special Service. On these papers, George stated that he was living at Forest Lodge, Sydney, that he had been born in Toronto, Canada and his nominated next-of-kin was a Miss Dora O'Hara, also of Toronto, Canada. George was again accepted into service and he embarked for England on 19th August 1919.
He returned to Australia in February 1920 and was discharged on 18th March 1920.
George wrote to the Army in 1930s advising of his real name.
