Story
James Baker (Service No 6708)was born in Bathurst, NSW In 1891 he married Lucy Marsden.
James and his family were living in Bulli, NSW when he enlisted. On his enlistment papers, James claimed to be 45 years old.He wasmarried and working as alabourer. James wasthe third member of his family to enlist.
Jamesembarked from Sydney on HMAT Port Nicholson with 22nd Reinforcement, 13th Battalion on 8th November 1916. He arrived in England on 10th January 1917 and served on the Western Front at 13th Battalion headquarters, from 27th April 1917 until 20th November 1917, when he returned to England.
James submitted a request to be returned to Australia due to his wife's poor health and at this time revealed his true age to be 53. James was duly returnedhomeand discharged.
Jamesdied in Bulli in 1935. James Baker served with 3 of his sons.
