Story

Edward Allen (Service No 2326)was born in Kiama, NSWbut raised inCoolamon, NSWashis family moved there when he was young.

Edwardenlisted when he was24 years old.He was a single manworking as alabourer at this time.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A32 Themistocles with the 19th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 5th October 1915. He arrived in Egypt and was soon on his way to France, arriving on 25th March 1916. Edward saw service on the Western Front until 14th November 1916 when he was wounded,sustaining gun shotwounds to his left leg. He was admitted to hospital in France and then England for treatment. Edward was returned to his unit in Belgium on 14th October 1917.

He continued to see action until he was wounded a second time on 7th April 1918 and again admitted to hospital in France for treatment of a gun shot wound to his neck. Edward wasthen returned to his unit on 14th May 1918. Five days laterEdwardwas killed in action.

Edward is buried in Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension, France (Plot IV, Row O, Grave 7.

Edward's brother George was also killed in this war.
