Story
Leslie Allen (Service No 5974)was born in Manitoba, Canada around 1892. The only available information about him comes from his enlistment file.
Leslieenlisted when he was living in Kiama, NSWand working as a labourer. He was single and 24 years old.
Leslie embarked from Syney on HMAT A18 Wiltshire with the 13th Battalion 19th Reinforcements on 22nd August 1916. He arrived in England on 13th October 1916 but was admitted to hospital sick on 4th January 1917.
Leslie finally arrived in France on 21st January 1917.On 6th February,while serving at the front he was wounded, sustaining shrapnel wounds to his right foot and leg.He was treated in France and returned to his unit on 25th February.On 11th April 1917, while serving at Bullecourt in France,Leslie was killed in action.
There is no known grave for Leslie,and he is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux, France.
Francis' medals were placed into storage as his family could not be located.
Notes on his war documents state hismother was living in London and his father in Canada.
