Story
James Summerson (Service No 1610)was born in Clifton, NSWaround 1894. He enlistment when he was 21 years of age. James was single, and employed as a miner. Jameshad also served with the Citizen Militia (CMF).
James embarked from Sydneyon HMAT A35 Berrima with the20th Battalion, 1st Reinforcementson 6th June 1915. After a short stop in Egypt he arrivedon theGallipoli Peninsula on 16th August 1915, serving thereuntil the evacuation.
James was thensent to France andarrived on 25th March 1916. While engaged in signalling duties on 5th May 1916 he was shot by a sniper and killed.
James is buried in Brewery Orchard Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, France. (Plot IV, Row C, Grave 25).
