Story
John Cade (Service No 19051) was born in Wollongong, NSW
In 1915 John married Ivy Levy at Nygamee, NSW
When Johnenlisted when he was25 years old.At this time John wasmarried and employed as atelegraphist, and living at the Sydney suburb of Marrickville.
Johnembarked from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire 0n 11th May 1916 with 28th Battery, 7th Field Artillery.John and Ivyhad a son born in 1916.
Johnarrived in France on 29th December 1916 and served on the Western Front until 30th May 1917, when he was admitted to hospital with burns. He returned to his unit on 5th July 1917 and on 6th July he was promoted to Corporal.
On 8th July John was with 107th Howitzer Battery in the Messines sector at Flanders, Belgium,when he was killed in action. There are no details about what happened but a letter on file from his wife mentions gassing.
John is buried in Khandahar Farm Cemetery, Nueve-Eglise Belgium,Plot I, Row D, Grave 30 .
