Story
William Bedford (Service No 5037) was born in Bath, England in April 1893. He arrived in Australia aged 19 and worked as a farm labourer in the Kiama, NSW area. As a single 23 year old, he was keen to enlist but was rejected 3 times due to bad teeth. William was finally successful when he joined the Waratah March.
He embarked on S S Makarini on 1st April 1916 with 16th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion. They were sent to France via England and he arrived in France on 18th June 1916. He was near Albert when he was killed just 2 months later.
William is buried in Serre Road Cemetery No 2 Plot XIII, Row K, Grave 17.
