Story
James Ring (Service No 3310) was born in Unanderra, NSW about 1877 and at the time of enlistment was a married 39 year old cordial maker from Wollongong, NSW. In 1902 he married Mary Mahon and they had a son by the time he enlisted.
He embarked on HMAT A20 Hororata on 2nd May 1916 with 7th Reinforcements, 30th Battalion. After arriving in Egypt he was admitted to hospital on 19th June 1916 with mumps. On his recovery James was sent to the Western Front arriving in France on 3rd November with 6 Platoon, B Company. They went into action in Warneton near Messines. On 20th November James was carrying meals and ammunition to the trenches, when he was hit by a shell and killed instantly.
He is buried in Bethlehem Farm Cemetery, Messines, Belgium Row F, Grave 4.
