Story

Christopher Moore (Service No 5309) was born in Wollongong, NSW, around 1888.

At enlistment Christoper he was single, 29 years old, and employed as a railway porter. He embarked on SS Makarini on 1st April 1916 with 1st Battalion, 16th Reinforcement.

Christopher saw service on the Western Front with 1st Battalion after arriving in France in May 1916. He was wounded during the Somme battles on 22nd July 1916 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of gun shot wounds to his back, wrist and chest. The injury took some time to treat and he was not able to rejoin his unit until 28th February 1917. However he was returned to hospital just a few days later for further treatment of his wounds, finally returning to his unit on 22nd April 1917.

On 3rd October 1917, at the battle of Passchaendale, Christopher was killed in action.

Christopher is buried in Aeroplane Cemetery, Ypres Belgium, Plot VI, Row A, Grave 31.

He is commemorated on the Wollongong Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.
