Story

Andrew Simpson (Service No 17050) was born in Cowdenbeath, Scotland. His family came to Australia and settled in Wollongong, NSW. He had spent time with 37th Infantry CMF. At the time of enlistment he was a single 21 year old labourer.

Andrew embarked on HMAT A9 Shropshire on 11th May 1917 with the February 1917 Reinforcements Army Medical Corps. He served in England and the Western Front. Andrew arrived in France on 30th September 1917 and was wounded in action on 17th September 1918 by gas attack. He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment.

Andrew returned to Australia in December 1919 and was discharged on 11th March 1920.
Later that year, on 14th August, he married Henrietta Earl in Wollongong. He spent the rest of his life in Wollongong and died there age 40. He is remembered on the Wollongong Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.
