Story
Victor Williams (Service No 801) was born in Maitland, NSW around 1892. When he enlisted he was a single 21 year old labourer, living in Helensburgh, NSW
Victor enlisted early in the war and embarked with Australia's first convoy, HMAT A23 Suffolk on 18th October 1914 with the 2nd Battalion, G Company. After training in Egypt he sailed for Gallipoli and landed on 25th April.
Victor survived the early fighting and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 7th May 1915. On 19th May 1915 he was wounded receiving a brain injury from a bullet wound to his face.
Victor was evacuated to HMTS Galeska for treatment but died at sea on the 28 May. He was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
