Story
Thomas Evans was born in Huyton Lancashire England. He moved to Australia and was a single 34 year old machine agent when he enlisted.
Thomas was an adventurous man who had served in the South African War from 1899 to 1901 as a trooper with the Leicestershire Yeomanry where he received the Queens South Africa Medal with 4 clasps.
He embarked on HMAT A14 Euripides on 20th October 1914 with 3rd Battalion Machine Gun Section. After arriving in Egypt he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 1st January 1915.Thomas arrived on Gallipoli on 25th April and received special mention for gallantry and valuable service on 25th April.
He was at the battle for Lone Pine, carrying one of his wounded men to safety under heavy enemy fire, when he was killed. Thomas is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, the grave is unknown. He is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial.
