Story

Robert McClelland (Service No 82) was born in Kempsey about 1894. At the time of enlistment he was a single 20 year old mechanical engineer working at Port Kembla. He had served in 37th Infantry CMF.

He embarked as a sergeant with C Company, 3rd Battalion on HMAT A14 Euripides on 19th October 1914. After training in Egypt he went to Gallipoli arriving on the 25th and was killed while fighting near Courtneys Post the next day. Robert is buried in Steeles and Courtneys Post Cemetery. He is remembered on the Wollongong Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.

His parents were deceased when he enlisted and his sister Isabella is listed as next of kin. He had 2 sisters enlist and serve with the Nursing and Medical Corps.
