Story
Thomas Downie was born in Port Kembla, NSW about 1894. When he enlisted he was a single 21 year old blacksmith.
He embarked on HMAT A44 Vestalia on 22 June 1915 with 4th Light Horse Ammunition Reserve and served in Egypt. Unfortunately Thomas was admitted to hospital for appendicitis and due to illness was returned to Australia in February 1917. He was discharged as medically unfit on 7th May 1917. Thomas appears in various records under two Service Numbers, 11 and 8850.
In 1933 Thomas married Mary Hubbard in Wollongong. He died in 1953.
