Story
George Dawson (Service No 819) was born in Palmerston New Zealand in July 1891. He had spent 3 years full time in the New Zealand Rifles. George arrived in Sydney on 29th April 1910 and by 1913 had married Laura Hooper. At the time of enlistment the George was a 23 year old labourer, with 2 children. The family was living in Gwynneville, NSW.
George embarked on HMAT A19 Afric on 18th October 1914. He arrived on Gallipoli on 25th April. Soon after landing George was part of an advance party that was cut off. He was listed as missing. It is not known where he died or what happened but he was declared killed in action on 2nd May. His body has never been found. George is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial.
