Story
Daniel Kelly was a single 24 year old painter from Gerringong when he enlisted in May 1915. He embarked on HMAT A67 Orsova with 4th Battalion,7th Reinforcements on 14th July 1915. It is not clear if he served at Gallipoli. As part of the reorganisation Daniel joined the 56th Battalion on 13th February 1916 and was sent to France with them.
He saw service on the Western Front, until on 10th May 1918, he was wounded in action. He was evacuated to hospital with severe gun shot wounds to his chest. Daniel was returned to Australia in February 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 2nd June 1919.
On 30th April 1924 he married Myrtle Gallagher and together they raised a family.
