Story
Daniel Fraser was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Australia with his family. He attended school at Mt Kembla and Helensburgh in NSW
At enlistment Daniel was single, 34 years old, worked as a miner, and lived at Balgownie, NSW He embarked on HMAT A63 Karoola with 6th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion on 16th June 1915.
Daniel arrived on Gallipoli on 4th August and was wounded in action on 21st August. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to his thigh. He rejoined his mates in A Company at Gallipoli on 10th November 1915.
He was sent to France with the battalion, and while fighting at Pozieres he was again wounded. He was evacuated to Wandsworth Hospital in London for treatment of gun shot wounds to his head and arm.
Daniel died from gas gangrene in hospital. He is buried in Wandsworth Cemetery, Block 19, Grave 29.
Daniel's sacrifice is commemorated on the Balgownie Presbyterian Church Honour Roll.
