Story
James Robertson (Service No 3221) was a single 21 year old grocers assistant from Scarborough when he enlisted.
He embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana with 8th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion, on 25th November 1916. He arrived in England and went to France where he sustained a gun shot wound to his left arm on 7th June 1917. James was evacuated to hospital for treatment and returned to his unit on 2nd November 1917.
The 45th Battalion was engaged in heavy fighting in the Ypres area in February 1918 when James was reported missing in action on 6th February 1918. Information received later from Germany, advised he had been taken prisoner on 5th February. At the end of the war he was repatriated to England and returned to Australia in March 1919. He was discharged on 3rd June 1919.
In 1923 he married Minnie Davis.
His brother Roy Robertson (Service No 1765) served at Gallipoli where he was killed in action on 7th November, 1915.
