Story
James Lillie (Service No 904)was born in Scotland around 1887 and arrived in Sydney in 1914.
When Johnenlisted he was a single 28 year old miner living atScarborough on the New South Wales South Coast.
James embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic with C Company, 18th Battalion on 25th June 1915. After he arrived in Egypt he was sent on to Gallipoli.
James was wounded in action on 22nd August 1915 with a gun shot wound to his thigh. He was evacuated for treatment but while on board the hospital ship Franconia he died from his wounds. James was buried at sea and is comemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
A letter on James' file indicates he was engaged to a Miss Whyte in Scotland.
