Story
Fred Downie (Service No 2245) was born in Wollongong, NSW about 1891. At the time of enlistment he was a single 24 year old labourer who had previously served in the St George Rifles.
He embarked on HMAT A63 Karoola on 16th June 1915 with 6th Reinforcements 4th Battalion. He arrived at Gallipoli on 4th August 1915 with D Company 4th Battalion in time for the Lone Pine battle. On 6th August he was killed and has no known grave. He is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial.
