Story
Patrick Devirs (Service No 3292) was born about 1877 and at the time of enlistment was a single 38 year old miner from Balgownie, NSW. He was a keen cricketer and soccer player in the area.
Patrick embarked on HMAT A71 Nestor with 11th Reinforcements 6th Battalion on 11th October 1915 and saw service in Egypt and on the Western Front having joined the battalion in Egypt on 22nd February 1916. He was wounded very early in the fighting and was evacuated to hospital on 5th May 1916 with a compound fracture of his right arm and severe shock. Patrick died of his wounds and is buried in Estaires Communal Cemetery., Plot II, Row O, Grave 97.
His brother James (Service No 17301) also served and returned to Australia in May, 1919.
