Story

Private William Annett (Service no. 155) was born in Ireland and came to Australia and settled in Wollongong. At the time of enlistment he was a single 42 year old labourer living in Figtree. He embarked on HMAT A32 Themistocles on 12th May, 1915 with 17th Battalion.

William arrived at Gallipoli and on 27th August the war diary states ... 'A coy took part in an attack on Hill 60. Many killed and wounded'.

It was during this attack that William Annett received a gun shot wound to his right leg. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment and on 12th September transferred to hospital in England.

William returned to Australia in March 1916 and was discharged medically unfit on 12th August, 1916. In 1934 he married Mary McSweeney.
