Charlie Shaw (Service No 6365) was born in London around 1880.  He came to Australia some time 1907 when he married Elizabeth Pitchford in Sydney. 

When Charlie enlisted at Kiama, N.S.W, he and Elizabeth had 4 children.  He was 35 years old, was working as a fireman and the family lived at Russell Vale/ Bellambi, N.S.W.  Charlie embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 13th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement on 9th September 1916.

The troops arrived in England on 26th October 1916 and he joined 13th Battalion, B Company in France on 21st January 1917.

When the 13th Battalion was decimated at Bullecourt in April 1917, Charles was in hospital, having been admitted on 7th February.   He returned to his unit on 12th September 1917 and saw service on the Western Front until the end of the war.

Charlie was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 3rd August 1919.

He died at Bulli in 1955.

His service is commemorated on the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial.
