Thomas Newman (Service No 2994) was born in Coolamon, N.S.W.  On 23rd June 1909, Thomas married Maud Cotterill.

Thomas enlisted at the age of 30 years old; he & Maud had one child, and he was working as a night officer at Stanwell Park Railway Station.

He embarked from Sydney on 17th July 1918, on HMAT A30 Borda, with the April 1918 Railway Reinforcements.

Thomas disembarked in England in September 1918 and was admitted to hospital suffering from influenza on 25th October 1918; he subsequently saw no active service.  He was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged on 20th September 1919.

On 27th August 1940, Thomas enlisted for service in World War II (Service No N78277)  and served as a private with the 11th Garrison Batallion until 8th September 1943.

Thomas died in Sydney in 1966 and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery, N.S.W.
