Reuben Prescott (Service No 1476), was born in Gympie, Queensland.

At enlistment, he was single, 19 years old, worked as a labourer and had served 5 months with the Militia. Reuben embarked on HMAT A24 Benalla, with 35th Battalion, D Company, on 1st May 1916, and arrived in England on 9th July 1916.

He arrived in France on 21st November 1916, and joined 35th Battalion in the field. On 7th June 1917, Reuben was wounded in action at Messines, Belgium. He was evacuated to hospital, for treatment of a gun shot wound to his jaw, returning to duty on 14th December 1917. Reuben saw service on the Western Front.

He returned to Australia in May 1919, and was discharged on 12th August 1919. Reuben returned to Weston, N.S.W., after the war, and worked in the mines. He became the bandmaster of the Weston Town Band. Reuben did not marry.

Reuben died from injuries he sustained in a mining accident, at Hebburn No 1 Colliery, Weston, N.S.W.

Many of the town's people attended Reuben's funeral, which was very large.

He is commemorated on the Helensburgh Methodist Church Roll of Honour.

Reuben's brother, Joseph Prescott (Service No 5437), also served.
