Edward Aclan Hargrave (Service No 1073) was born in Sydney around 1897.

At enlistment he stated he was 18 years old, single and a sailor. However, the parental permission note states he was a miner. Edward's father was the police constable at Figtree, N.S.W., at the time and was stationed at Dapto, N.S.W., soon after.

Edward embarked around June 1915 with the 20th Battalion and landed in Gallipoli, Turkey, on 22nd August 1915. He was evacuated to hospital due to sickness on 5th September 1915 and ended up in hospital in England. Edward was back in hospital on 20th March 1916, seriously ill with pneumonia. He returned to his unit in France, on 12th July 1916.

On 4th August 1916, Edward was seriously wounded at Pozieres, France, and was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right shoulder. Deemed unfit for further active service he was repatriated to Australia in August 1917, and discharged medically unfit on 28th November 1917. When he arrived home, Edward was met by a large group of family and friends at Dapto station.

In 1923, he married Leonora O'Brien at Picton, N.S.W.

Edward died in 1957 and is buried in Macquarie Park Cemetery, North Ryde, N.S.W.
