John Gordon Hicks (Service No 6353) was born in Shellharbour, N.S.W., around 1894.

At enlistment he was 22 years old, single, worked as a farmer and lived in Katoomba, N.S.W.

John embarked on HMAT A29 Suevic with the 20th Battalion, 18th Reinforcement, on 11th November 1916. He arrived in England on 30th January 1917 and joined the 20th Battalion, D Company, in France, on 1st August 1917.

In October 1917, John was admitted to hospital with trench feet but recovered and returned to duty. He was admitted to hospital on 6th March 1919, with pneumonia and returned to Australia in April 1919. John was discharged medically unfit on 29th June 1920.

John died in 1923, and is buried in Northern Suburbs Cemetery, North Ryde, N.S.W.
