Joseph Hughes (Service No 7258) was born in Newcastle, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was 36 years old, single, worked as a painter and lived in Bulli, N.S.W.

Joseph embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A46 Clan Macgillivray with the 3rd Battalion, 24th Reinforcement, on 10th May 1917. He arrived in England on 23rd July 1917 where he remained until he joined the 3rd Battalion in France, on 15th April 1918. Joseph was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged on 5th October 1919. There is a letter on file from 1940 from the Liverpool State Hospital.

 Joseph died in Liverpool, N.S.W., in 1942.
