John Williams (Service No 2536) was born in Adelong, N.S.W. around 1886.

At enlistment John was single, 29 years old, worked as a miner, and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A9 Shropshire with 13th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement on 20th August 1915.

After arriving in Egypt John joined the battalion in Mudros but his file does not indicate arrival on Gallipoli.  He arrived in France on 8th June 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.

John was wounded in action on 18th September 1918 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right leg.  He was returned to Australia in January 1919 but not discharged until 23rd December 1919.
