Richard Morgan was born in Mittagong, NSW in 1891.

At the time of enlistment Richard was single, 24 years of age, employed as a miner, residing in Corrimal, NSW and was the first of 4 brothers too enlist.

Richard embarked on HMAT A55 - Kyarra with the 4th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 13 April 1915.  The troops on board would have been made aware of the landing while travelling to Egypt.  Richard arrived at Gallipoli, Turkey on 17 June 1915 and was wounded in action soon after.

Richard was evacuated for treatment of a gun shot wound to his fingers. He returned to Gallipoli, Turkey in September 1915.  Richard was sent to France and arrived on 1 June 1916.  He was transferred to 4th Pioneers on 26 July 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.  Richard was wounded a second time on 20 October 1917 but remained on duty.  He was gassed in October 1918 and was returned to Australia in March 1919.

Richard was medically discharged with a pension on 1 July 1919.

Richard's brothers  Charles Morgan (Service no 2028), William Morgan (Service no 2695) and Robert Morgan also served.
