Leslie Humphreys (Service No 425) was born in Wallsend, N.S.W. in 1890.

At Leslie was single, 24 years old, and worked as a farmer at Avondale, Dapto.  He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A8 Argyllshire with Field Artillery Brigade 1, Battery 3 on 18th October 1914.

He arrived in Egypt in December and was sent to Gallipoli with the first day men, and remained there until December 1915.  He arrived in France on 27th March 1916 and served on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 3rd November 1917.  He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment on the effects of a mustard gas attack.

Leslie returned to France on 12th February 1918 and served until returned to Australia for 1914 Leave in October 1918.

He was discharged from the AIF on 3rd February 1919. In 1929 Leslie married Martha Bridge and the couple had 2 children.  Leslie worked as a telephone linesman. 

On 20th June 1937 Leslie committed siucide after killing Martha and their 2 boys. The coroners inquest evidence stated he was a returned man and had been very ill for some time before this tragedy.
