Gabriel McAuliffe (Service no 2748) was born in Jamberoo, NSW in 1891.

At the time of enlistment Gabriel was single, 24 years of age, employed as a carpenter and had previously served with the Cadets.

He embarked on HMAT A14 - Euripides with the 20th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements on 2 November 1915 and arrived in Egypt in early December.  Gabriel was transferred to the 56th Battalion on 16 February 1916 and arrived in France on 28 June 1916.

Gabriel was admitted to hospital suffering from influenza soon after. On 13 October 1917, he was admitted to hospital with an injured foot.  He had been run over by a vehicle while on a route march and deemed not responsible for the accident.  While in England recovering from his injury he was able to catch up with his brother Thomas McAuliffe (Service no 2688) who had been wounded and sent a letter to his mother to let her know they were both recovering well.

Gabriel was deemed unfit for further active service and repatriated to Australia in September 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 22 November 1917, however, the reason stated was cardiac disease.

On 24 July 1920, he married Muriel Smith in Sydney, NSW and together they raised 4 children.

Gabriel died in Sydney, NSW in 1973 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.

He is remembered on the Jamberoo Roll of Honor along with his brother Thomas.
