Meredydd Williams
Meredydd Williams (Service No 1311) was born in Carnarvon, Wales around 1893.
At enlistment Meredydd was single, 22 years old, worked as a miner and lived at Scarborough, N.S.W. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A40 Ceramic with D Company, 18th Battalion on 25th June 1915. He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli in August.
Meredydd was wounded in action on 22nd August 1915 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a shrapnel wound to his thigh. He eventually ended up in hospital in England but returned to Egypt in early 1916.
He was transferred to 53rd Battalion on 20th April 1916 and arrived in France with them on 20th June 1916. Meredydd was wounded a second time on 19th July 1916 at Fromelle and evacuated to hospital for treatment of severe gun shot wounds to his left leg and face. Deemed unfit for further active service he was repatriated to Australia in February 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 17th May 1917.
In 1928 Meredydd moved to Brisbane and he died there in 1946; Meredydd is buried in Lutwyche Cemetery.
