Adam Herbert Simpson
Adam Simpson (Service No 4655) was born in Shellharbour, NSW.
At enlistment, Adam was single, 29 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Manly, Sydney. He embarked from Sydney on board RMS Osterley with 3rd Battalion, 14th Reinforcement on 15th January 1916. Adam nominated his sister, Mary Edna McGrath as his next of kin.
He arrived in France on 3rd April 1916 and served in France until 8th June 1916 when he was admitted to hospital sick. Adam spent most of his service in England due to sickness and was finally returned to Australia in February 1918. He was discharged, medically unfit, due to chronic bronchitis on 18th May 1918.
In 1917, while in England, Adam married and declared Mrs Ethel Simpson to be his next of kin (see p.10, NAA documents). Ethel did not return to Australia with Adam when he was discharged from the AIF. He returned to England in 1920 and he and Ethel came back to Sydney in 1927.
Adam died in 1959.
