Walter Martin (Service no 6056) was born in Camden, NSW. At the time of enlistment Walter was married, 29 years of age, employed as a miner and resided in Bulli, NSW.

In 1907 Walter married Violet Jeffrey and together they had 4 children.

Walter embarked on HMAT A18 - Wiltshire with the 1st Battalion, 19th reinforcements on 22 August 1916. He arrived in England on 13 October 1916 and joined the 1st Battalion, A Company in France on 18 December 1916.

Walter was admitted to hospital sick soon after his sarrival with bronchitis and rheumatism.  He was deemed medically unfit for active service and repatriated to Australia in July 1917.  Walter was medically discharged on 19 October 1917.

A pension was granted to Walter, his wife and 4 children.

Walter died in 1955.
