John Hay (Service No 66467), was born in Durham, England, and came to Australia with his family in 1914.

In 1915, John's father was killed in an accident at the Mount Keira Mine.

At enlistment, he was single, 20 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.

John embarked on HMAT A36 Boonah, from Adelaide, S.A., with the NSW Reinforcement 21, on 22nd October 1918.

It is unclear from John's file, if he went to England, or if the ship was returned to Australia. He was discharged on 1st April 1919.
