Percy Chappell (Service No 15580) stated he was born in Sheffield, England, around 1896. He claimed to be single, 19 years old and a blacksmith striker. In fact, Percy was born in 1899 and only 16 years old.

On 14th April 1916, he embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic, with the 5th Field Artillery Brigade, 5th Reinforcement. Percy arrived in France on 2nd November 1916 and joined the 16th Battery, 6th Field Artillery Brigade, on 14th November 1916. On 4th December 1916, he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of a gun shot wound to his neck. Percy returned to his unit on 28th April 1917 and served on the Western Front until the end of the war. Percy was returned to Australia in June 1919, and discharged medically unfit, on 26th September 1919.

On 19th April 1924, Percy married Maud Applegate, in Wollongong, N.S.W.

In 1928, Percy and Maude's son was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

Percy died in Croydon, N.S.W., in 1968.
