William Green (Service No 5008) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. in 1881.

At enlistment William was single, 31 years old, employed as an engineer and lived at Corrimal, N.S.W.  William had served 2 years with St George Rifles.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A35 Berrima with 1st Field Company Engineers, 13th Reinforcements on 17th December 1915.  He arrived in Egypt and went to France on 29th June 1916 with F Company, 14th Field Company Engineers.

William saw service on the Western Front until 20th July 1916 when he was wounded in action.  He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his abdomen. He was repatriated to Australia in February 1917 and discharged medically unfit with a pension on 9th May 1917.
