Albert Gibson (Service No 19579) was born in Thirroul, N.S.W. 

Albert was 19 years of age, single and had carried out 2 years service in the Militia when he enlisted.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with the July 1917 reinforcements on 31st October 1917.  He arrived in England on 26th December 1917 and joined 15th Field Company Engineers in France on 25th April 1918.

Albert saw service on the Western Front without any recorded wounding and was returned to Australia in July 1919, and discharged from the AIF on 13th September 1919.

On 27th April 1929 he married Margaret Coutts in Hamilton, Victoria, and the couple had one child. Albert and Margaret moved to the North Coast of N.S.W. after the war to work a banana planation.  After disease ruined the crops the couple moved to the N.S.W. Central Coast where they took up an orange orchard, remaining there for the rest of their lives.

Albert died in 1975.  His service is commemorated on the Thirroul Public School Honour Roll.

Albert's brother Thomas Gibson (Service No 4039) also served.
