William Hendry (Service No 3615), was born in Durham, England around 1882.

At enlistment, he was 34 years old,  married, worked as a miner and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W. William listed his wife, Elizabeth, as his next of kin. He stated he had served 4 years with the Cycle Corps, 3rd Durham Regiment.

William embarked on HMAT A69 Warialda, with Tunnelling Company 4, Headquarters 1, on 22nd May 1916. He arrived in England on 18th July 1916, and joined the 1st Tunnelling Company, in France, on 30th September 1916. William was admitted to hospital with eneteric fever (thyphoid fever), on 2nd December 1916. He was returned to Australia in May 1917, due to typhoid fever, and was discharged medically unfit, on 19th September 1919.

William died in 1972, and is buried at Woronora Cemetery, Sutherland, N.S.W.
